Vietnam Memorial Dedication Ceremony

The public is invited to a ceremony for the unveiling and dedication of the new Vietnam Memorial Monument as well as to honor all Vietnam era veterans on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Veterans Affairs Vancouver Campus Vietnam Veterans Garden. This new memorial will honor 59 Clark County military service members who were killed in Vietnam.

What’s in a Name: Battle Ground Exhibit Explores

The Battle Ground Community Library has an excellent exhibit going on for the next several weeks in the Meyer Community Room. It’s all about the circumstances surrounding Battle Ground’s naming and sponsored by the Friends of the Battle Ground Community Library.

During all of September and October, the Friends are providing some details to help answer the many questions about the ‘battle that never occurred’ and other related topics such as ‘what was it like here in 1855?’ All this is happening through an exhibit of historical photos and story boards. It also delves into the story recognizing the lead figures of the ‘confrontation’ and how two schools in the Battle Ground School District have the distinction of being named Chief Umtuch and Captain Strong. It’s an exhibit all ages will find of interest.

National POW/MIA Recognition Event

The Community Military Appreciation Committee (CMAC), a civic nonprofit organization, invites the community to a National POW/MIA Recognition Day Observance on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Armed Forces Reserve Center at 15005 NE 65th St, Vancouver, WA. The reception begins at 9:45 a.m., with a program starting at 11:00 a.m. The purpose of the event is to honor and remember those who were prisoners of war (POW) and those who are missing in action (MIA), and their families.

Sylvester Takes Director Intern Role

The School of Piano Technology for the Blind recently announced the appointment of Leal Sylvester, Class of 1997, as Director of Instruction Intern. Sylvester, who previously worked for the school as both a field technician and instructor, will work hand-in-hand with the school’s current Director of Instruction Don Mitchell to master the school’s unique one-on-one curriculum and teaching methodology.
