For all you ‘budding’ brewmasters out there, this one’s for you. :) Here’s a free local workshop on getting started growing hops at home.
Did you know you could grow hops in your own backyard! They say it’s as easy growing a perennial – no green thumbs needed! As you may know, hops are used in home brewing beer or as an attractive decorative addition to your garden landscape.
The Clark County Master Composter/Recyclers will teach a free lasagna gardening workshop on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Clark County Food Bank (6502 NE 47th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98661).
Discover how to recycle cardboard, newspaper, leaves, grass clippings and other organic material to make a new garden for next spring. Lasagna gardening, an easy no-till method of soil building, is a great way to recycle organic material and a simple way to create a healthy garden.
The fair features hundreds of ideas on how to make your home, yard and garden a more beautiful, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly place. There will be eleven “elaborate landscape displays” this year as well as the area’s largest plant sale with many of our local nurseries. Also new this year, the Salmon Creek Farmers Market will be featured outside along the midway.
Many different hands on activities will keep the young ( and young at heart) entertained. Another plus…being as the weather in the beautiful Pacific Northwest can be a bit unpredictable, the Home and Garden Idea Fair is held inside the Clark County Event Center (17402 NE Delfel Rd, Ridgefield) so rain or shine, you’re sure to have a good time!
Admission is free, and parking is $6. Friday and Saturday hours are from 9am to 6pm; Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Please also “bring a can if you can” as canned food donations will be accepted for our local food banks.
