Tastes and Tunes at Alderbrook Park

Eat, drink, shop, play and listen to music at Tastes and Tunes happening at Alderbrook Park on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from noon to 8:00 pm. Taste and Tunes is a celebration of food, wine and beer, music, and local artists; as well as being a fundraiser to help support the Battle Ground Rotary with their humanitarian projects.

Heisen Barn Bash

Come join the fun at the 7th Annual Heisen Barn Bash on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from noon to 9 pm. This event will celebrate the ongoing restoration work on the historic Heisen Barn and the continuing barn (fund)raising efforts to preserve and protect this historic building at Heisen House Vineyards. The fun family centered farm style celebration will feature historic displays, tours of the historic homestead, food, music, games, local products and goods for sale from area crafters, artists, and farmers, and more! They will also have music every hour on the hour followed by a headliner concert from 6 to 9 pm.

Battle Ground Free Summer Playground Program

School is out and that means Battle Ground’s Summer Playground program is in session! This free summer program, designed for children aged 4 – 10, brings fun, recreational and organized activities to Battle Ground parks each Wednesday and Thursday during the 9-week summer break beginning June 22nd through August 18th.

Lucky Shamrock Auction Benefits RockSolid

The 2016 Lucky Shamrock Annual Auction, benefiting Rock-Solid Teen Center will be held Saturday, March 12th. The Lucky Shamrock event has a St. Patrick’s Day theme (ya think?) :) and while costume attire is optional, it sounds like having a whole lot of fun will definitely be required.

There will be a Silent auction, plus entertainment, dinner (catered by our friends at Mill Creek Pub), specialty drinks, a live auction and much more fun.

The event is sponsored by our friends at Riverview Community Bank and the proceeds will benefit the good folks at Rock-Solid Teen Center.

Rocksolid Hires New Executive Director

The Rocksolid Community Teen Center recently announced the hiring of their new Executive Director, Eddie Allen. For the past year and half, Eddie has been the Development Coordinator at The Gardner School of Arts & Sciences. Prior to Gardner, Eddie has been involved with fundraising and cause marketing efforts with numerous nonprofits in the area including FISH, Humane Society of SW Washington, Dream Big, Gifford Pinchot Task Force, NW Association for Blind Athletes, Share, and Equality SW Washington.

Battle Ground Public Safety Complex Named for Local Leader Ganley

The Battle Ground City Council recently passed a resolution naming the Battle Ground fire and police stations the William J. Ganley Public Safety Complex. This distinct honor recognizes Councilmember Bill Ganley for his extraordinary leadership in service to the Battle Ground community.

Known to thousands of students and parents, Mr. Ganley dedicated over 30 years to his profession as a teacher and coach at Battle Ground and Summit View High Schools. He served as Battle Ground’s first Mayor under the council-manager form of government from 1997 – 2001 and consistently advocates for public safety as the first priority of the City of Battle Ground.

Riverview Answers Battle Ground Police Call for Help

It is usually the other way around, but on this particular day it was the Battle Ground Police Department that placed a call for help. Their collection of teddy bears stored at the police department was ruined when water leaked into the storage room. These were not just any teddy bears, they were meant to provide comfort to children in times of crisis.

Officers often encounter children who have been in car accidents, have suffered abuse, or who have witnessed traumatic events. The gift of a stuffed animal provides these children with a level of comfort, a type of emotional first aid, and it helps build a bridge of trust between an officer and a hurting child.
