It’s a Teen Takeover

Rocksolid Community Teen Center invites all teens in the 5th-12th grade to attend “Teen Takeover”, a fun event to be held Friday, April 28th at the Battle Ground Community Center from 7:00-10:00PM.

For only a $5.00 entry fee teens will be treated with numerous activities to make this “takeover” a ton of fun.

Purchase a Brick to Honor and Recognize a U.S. Veteran

Did you know that you can honor and recognize a U.S. veteran (living or deceased) at the Battle Ground Veterans Memorial? Personalized bricks are engraved and installed on an annual basis. If purchased by March 1st, 2017 bricks will be engraved and installed at the memorial in time for Memorial Day this year.

Battle Ground Drama Club Presents Almost, Maine

Battle Ground High School Drama Club is set to perform “Almost, Maine” beginning February 2, 2017. Director Stephan “Cash” Henry describes it as “a beautiful play made up of short vignettes all about different aspects of love.” The play takes place during one day in a little town in Maine called Almost. The stories are heartfelt and honest in their content and are intertwined in some way.

Battle Ground Tree Lighting and Spirit of Giving

Battle Ground’s 27th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Celebration in the Spirit of Giving will be held on Friday, December 2nd, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Battle Ground Community Center, located at 912 E. Main Street in the historic Old Town district of Battle Ground.

This traditional community celebration begins outdoors with caroling led by the Battle Ground High School Jazz Choir. Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to arrive about 5:45 PM via Fire District 3 Engine to greet all the children and light the tree.

Battle Ground Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Battle Ground will commemorate Veterans Day with a ceremony held at the Battle Ground Community Center on Friday, November 11, 2016, at 11:00 am. Please note that this is a change of venue; the ceremony was originally scheduled to take place at the Battle Ground Veterans Memorial but has changed due to predicted weather conditions. The Battle Ground Community Center is located at 912 East Main Street in Battle Ground.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office Town Hall Meetings

As you may have heard over the last few days, the Sheriff’s office is looking at a proposed cut of $2.67 million in its budget for 2017-2018. Some possible outcomes may be the complete closure of the Central Precinct, suspending expansion of the jail re-entry program, canceling the reserve deputy and citizen academies over the next two years, and cutting other services. Sheriff Atkins’ will hold three town hall meetings to discuss the sheriff’s budget in light of significant proposed cuts. Please come and let your voice be heard!

What’s in a Name: Battle Ground Exhibit Explores

The Battle Ground Community Library has an excellent exhibit going on for the next several weeks in the Meyer Community Room. It’s all about the circumstances surrounding Battle Ground’s naming and sponsored by the Friends of the Battle Ground Community Library.

During all of September and October, the Friends are providing some details to help answer the many questions about the ‘battle that never occurred’ and other related topics such as ‘what was it like here in 1855?’ All this is happening through an exhibit of historical photos and story boards. It also delves into the story recognizing the lead figures of the ‘confrontation’ and how two schools in the Battle Ground School District have the distinction of being named Chief Umtuch and Captain Strong. It’s an exhibit all ages will find of interest.
