Race for Warmth Raises Over $40,000 for Community Cause

hey! sharing is caring :)

The eighth annual Clark Public Utilities Race for Warmth raised more than $41,000 for Operation Warm Heart.

Runners, walkers, and even some of their pets from Clark County and across America registered for last week’s virtual event, contributing more than $30,000 in registration fees and donations.

Nearly $11,500 was also donated at Burgerville restaurants. Every dollar of registration fees and all donations made will be used to provide local families in financial crisis help covering home heating expenses.

“We are so proud of and impressed by the generosity and kindness of the people and businesses in our community,” said Maxie Mayer, Clark Public Utilities Marketing and Events Specialist. “Even with the virtual format, we had a fantastic turnout. Plus, many people gave an extra donation to Operation Warm Heart, which will be very beneficial to struggling local families.”

The average Operation Warm Heart grant is $290 and the proceeds of this year’s race will directly benefit more than 200 families in our community.

Participants were invited to walk, run or roll a route of their choice. The Race for Warmth has become a community institution since runners first left the starting line in 2014. In a short time, hundreds of runners and walkers of all ages have made the community event an annual tradition.

Operation Warm Heart is a donor-funded program that helps community members in financial crisis who may not qualify for other payment assistance. Since its creation in 1985, Operation Warm Heart has provided more than $4.3 million to nearly 17,000 customers in financial crisis. For more than 30 years, Clark Public Utilities customers and employees have generously funded Operation Warm Heart. Donations can be made year-round at any Clark Public Utilities location, online at https://myaccount.clarkpublicutilities.com/owh or by calling 360-992-3000.
