The House of Providence, also known as The Academy, has an important place in Clark County History.
Located at 400 E Evergreen Boulevard, this former orphanage and school was built in 1873 by Mother Joseph of the Sacred Heart. She, along with four other nuns, traveled to Vancouver to serve the social and religious needs of locals.
Mother Joseph raised money for the construction of the House of Providence and 32 other charitable institutions by leading begging tours of local mining camps. The building has three stories, constructed in brick in a neo-Georgian style. It operated as a school until 1966.
On August 22nd, at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, come out for a guided walking tour of this amazing building. Click here to learn more.
