The Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW) is celebrating the 31st anniversary of their popular spring event, Walk/Run for the Animals on May 7th, 2022.
Each year, hundreds of walkers, runners, and dogs gather in downtown Vancouver to celebrate the special bond of people and pets. Walk/Run is an important fundraiser for HSSW; teams and individuals raise funds over several months in support of HSSW’s mission to rescue, return, restore, rehome, reconnect one animal at a time. In addition to fundraising, Walk/Run is also an important awareness event.
In 2021, the popular event shifted its format from a party in the park and walk along the Columbia River to a socially-distanced walk in Vancouver’s historic downtown. This year’s event combines favorite elements of past years for a new experience! The dog- and kid-friendly event will begin in Esther Short Park with a path heading north through downtown along Main Street. HSSW partners and sponsors have come together to provide fun and engaging “vendor villages” along the route, each offering giveaways, pet items, treats, or services.
Walkers can begin their self-paced walk through downtown Vancouver any time between 9:00 am and 11:00 am by checking in at the HSSW booth in Esther Short Park. This year’s run will be virtual. Runners can complete a 5K anywhere during the week prior to the event and submit their time via a web form, text, or email.
All registered walkers and runners will receive an event bag and earn fundraising prizes as they raise donations for the animals. Walk/Run is Southwest Washington’s largest outdoor animal-friendly walk or run.
