Clark County Parks and Recreation unveils new play equipment available for public use in Stockford Village Neighborhood Park, along NE 105th Street just west of Interstate 5. The 4.2-acre neighborhood park built in 1978 previously offered a swing set and monkey bars. The equipment was outdated and did not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act so Parks Department staff had recommended its replacement.
Clark County purchased new bright blue and green equipment, which consists of a climbing wall, two slides, four swings for children and infants, bridges and other features. It is also accessible for those with disabilities.
“Our goal was to transform the park’s image and make it safer and more enjoyable for children,” said Karyn Morrison, west parks grounds maintenance crew chief.
Grounds staff began by clearing vegetation to improve visibility. The Parks Foundation of Clark County provided a $10,000 grant to support the project.
Despite rain and chilly temperatures this week, dedicated volunteers worked alongside county staff to spread more than 100 cubic yards of wood chips so the playground could be opened for public use.
