The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is holding training courses for citizens of all ages and backgrounds, such as students, stay-at-home moms, engineers, and seniors. This programs empowers community members to make a difference during a disaster when first responders are often overwhelmed.

Trained CERT members provide immediate assistance to victims, check on neighbors’ safety, suppress small fires using a fire extinguisher, conduct light urban search and rescue, provide emergency medical aid and psychological assurance, help organize and direct neighbors, and even help outside of their neighborhood occasionally when needed for such things as sandbagging during a flood emergency.

Members are a huge asset to their families and neighborhoods. Courses are held throughout February and March at the Hazel Dell fire station, 8800 NE Hazel Dell Ave, Vancouver, WA 98665. The cost is $30.

For more information please contact, Firefighter/Paramedic Dave Sinclair, 360-576-1195, [email protected]. Or visit the CERT website for registration form and course schedule.
