The finalists are Valerie Ding, piano (Kelli Stephens, teacher), Nathan Kim, piano (Dr. Renato Fabbro, teacher), Ruta Kuzmickas, piano (Jean-David Coen, teacher), Richard Lu, cello (Hamilton Cheifetz, teacher), Fumika Mizuno, violin (Carol Sindell, teacher), Hannah Sihan Moon, piano (Kelli Stephens, teacher), Kristin Qian, violin (Carol Sindell, teacher), and Edison Tsai, piano (Kelli Stephens, teacher).
The exciting new format this year pits student against student in a concert setting before a live audience. The top three contestants will perform with the VSO under the baton of internationally-renowned Maestro Salvador Brotons at sold out concerts at Skyview Concert Hall on April 12th and 13th. The students will also get the chance to win a portion of the $5,000 cash prize.
Master of Ceremonies for the competition will be Edmund Stone, well-known for his radio work and host of the nationally syndicated show, The Score on All Classical Radio. The event is free and open to the public with no advance ticketing required.
