The Fort Vancouver National Trust has announced the winning Clark County high school vocalists who performed at the 2016 Independence Day events at Fort Vancouver. Ten local high school students competed for scholarships and more in the annual vocal competition.
The top three performers were:
First place: Sunday Manisto-Saari from Mountain View High School, with “Don’t Rain on my Parade” from Funny Girl.
Second place: Sydney Valaer from Washougal High School, with “All That Matters” from Finding Neverland.
Third place: Amanda Nicholson from Evergreen High School, with “Beyond My Wildest Dreams” from The Little Mermaid.
The winners were selected by a panel of musician judges: country singer Alice Wallace, Donovan Fraser from My Happy Pill, jazz vocalist Alyssa Schwary, solo artist Justin Sheehy, performer Lovey James, and Blake Sakamoto of the Nu Wavers. Contestants were judged on originality, skill, poise, audience appeal and family-friendly content.
The first place winner received a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice and a first place trophy. Second place took home a $500 college scholarship and third prize won a $250 college scholarship. All ten finalists will receive a DVD of the Sing Fourth program.

Amethyst Ackerman – Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift (Prairie High School)
Quintin Gaither – Faith by George Michael (Hudson’s Bay High School)
Nicole Roller – And I’m Telling You by Jennifer Hudson (Skyview High School)
Brittni Plummer – Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli (Union High School)
Shawni Van Vessem – My Guy by Mary Wells (Skyview High School)
The vocal competition was co-hosted by Drew Carney from KGW and Kyra Smith, a local singer and performer.
The Sing Fourth Teen Vocal Competition is a component of Independence Day at Fort Vancouver. This contest is produced by the Fort Vancouver National Trust and is open to high school students who live in Clark County. For more information, visit fortvan.org/fourth.
