On February 19th come expand your historical knowledge at this hour long presentation on Vancouver’s aircraft carriers during World War II led by guest lecturer Bill Wheeler. This is a FREE community event, open to all, however you will need to RSVP at 360-546-3344 to ensure a seat.
Wheeler is a retired US Navy Captain that specialized in ship design, modernization and maintenance. He is also an an emeritus Professor of Engineering at Clark College.
The presentation will discuss the 50 “Baby Flat Tops” aircraft carriers that were built at the Kaiser Vancouver shipyard during WWII and delivered in one year. There will be a chance to discuss and discover why these aircraft carriers were needed, a bit about the design elements and their part in selected battles of the war.

A Little History on the Kaiser Shipyard in Vancouver
When the United States entered World War II in December 1941, industrialist Henry Kaiser, turned his attention to producing ships for the war. The Kaiser shipyard in Vancouver, WA opened in early 1942 and turned out more than 140 ships and two drydocks during World War II.
