Happy Hour for Your Hands: Local Distillery Making Hand Sanitizer

hey! sharing is caring :)

Talk about crafting for a cause. Local breweries, a grain supplier, distillery and a winery are working together to produce hand sanitizer.

After hearing that essential workers, first-responders and healthcare providers were in need of hand sanitizer to help protect them from the COVID-19 virus, the Kyle family of Quartz Mountain Distillers sprung into action. Even though their distillery isn’t open to the public yet, their equipment was ready to be put to work. The family decided that they would put it to good use and begin production of hand sanitizer.

The company put out a message via Facebook looking for others who would be interested in helping with this cause. The response was amazing and they were excited to have the following companies step forward with contributions: Ambient, Brothers Cascadia, BSG Craft, Cerotsky’s Studios, Country Malt, Eppich Grain, Heisen House Vineyards, and Mt. Tabor Brewing.

To date, Quartz Mountain Distillery has distilled 550 gallons of beer, 210 gallons of wine and 175 gallons of hard cider that has produced 43 gallons of high-proof alcohol which has then been turned into 48 gallons of hand sanitizer.

The first 1500 4-ounce bottles were filled and labeled with the help of the management team of Mallard Landing Assisted Living from Battle Ground. TC Davis brought in her group of ladies to help and within three and a half hours the bottles were ready for distribution.

The Kyle family has begun to produce their next run of hand sanitizer and will soon have an additional 1500 4-ounce bottles available with some larger size bottles available as well. The Kyle family intends to make some available to the public, but the majority of the first batches will go straight to those who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle – medical professionals, first-responders and other essential workers.

The Kyle family is pleased that they have been able to provide this product to help the community, to have the opportunity to collaborate with other local businesses and to help meet the need for hand sanitizer for the local heroes who are working together to make our area a safer place.
