Greatest Show on H2O hits the Columbia River

hey! sharing is caring :)

For the first time in over 40 years, SW Washington will have the chance to watch the boats that perform in the Greatest Show on H2O.

With 3,000 Horsepower and tossing a 300-foot roostertail, the spectacular Hydroplanes can reach speeds of up to 200MPH. In other words, if you want to see them in action, you need to be paying attention or you’ll be sure to miss it.

This Friday, May 20, 2022, you’ll have a chance to watch some of the fastest racing boats in the world, right here on the shores of the Columbia River. Unlimited hydroplanes take to the water one at a time for test runs on the river from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Friday, racing a two-mile oval course between Interstate 5 and Interstate 205, with the start-finish line located near Beaches and McMenamins.

Spectators are asked to view the event from the area around the Columbia River Waterfront Renaissance Trail. There will some parking available in fields by the entrance to the Old Apple Tree across from Waterfront Park on SW Columbia Way.

You say you want a closer look, without getting soaked? Get a sneak peek of the boats on Thursday, May 19 while they’re on public display. From 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM that day the boats and their drivers will be at the Block 24 parking lot, on Phil Arnold Way in downtown Vancouver, just south of the Hilton. Here’s your chance to see five Unlimited Hydroplanes up close and talk to teams and drivers. Merchandise sales and autographs will also be available.
