Free Clinic of Southwest Washington Awarded Impact Award

The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington has been awarded the Impact Award for its Diabetes Program. The Impact Award is given to a nonprofit honoring one of its programs, “whose performance and delivery to the community sets a high standard of quality and outcomes.”

In 2015 it was acknowledged there had been an increase in patients with diabetes. A program was started to organize services for diabetic patients. A team of volunteers works with these patients and their families to address their disease, how it can be managed, and education about the disease.

Patients are seen by a Diabetic Caregiver Team and all medications and supplies are given at no charge. A community health worker meets with the patients to discuss any needs that may be interfering with improving their health. Currently, there are 102 patients being seen in the diabetic program. WSUV has joined in a partnership to provide healthy eating classes. Farmer’s markets provide vouchers for fresh fruits and veggies and the Clark County Food Bank brings their Fresh Food Truck to the clinic during the summer months. A survey suggests that 95% of all patients currently being seen are very satisfied with their care.

The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington delivers free, sympathetic, quality health care to individuals who are unable to obtain such services due to financial or other contributing factors. The Clinic offers medical, dental, vision, and specialty services with more than 500 volunteers who specialize in those fields. The Free Clinic receives its funding from the local community and through donations.  For more information, visit the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington online.
