Fort Vancouver Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration Canceled for 2020

The Historic Trust announces the cancelation of the 57th Annual Vancouver Fireworks Spectacular at Fort Vancouver National Site. Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, the organization wants to be responsible and ensure the safety and health of the community with canceling the event. The Fourth of July celebration brings thousands of people together for one of the region’s largest fireworks shows.

The Historic Trust partners with the National Park Service and the City of Vancouver to produce the Vancouver’s Fireworks Spectacular. This marks only the second time this event has been canceled. David Pearson, CEO/President of The Historic Trust said, “It is with deep regret we have had to make this decision. This is one of our favorite community events. We look forward to coming together next year for the Independence Day celebration.”

The Historic Trust’s Public Events Manager, Sarah Hannon said, “We know this event is a tradition to members of our community. This was a difficult decision, but the right one.” The Trust and its community partners will look towards planning for the event in 2021.

Steve Kenny, Vancouver native and Columbia Credit Union President and CEO, supports this tough decision, “It’s certainly understandable why our community’s iconic tradition is canceled as we flatten the curve on this pandemic virus.” Adding, “2021’s patriotic gathering will be even more special after this year’s hiatus. For now, by leaning into the figurative fireworks our collective tenacity and the mutual support that our community – and our nation – is displaying, we’ll stop this coronavirus in its tracks. That’s celebration enough. God bless America. Apart, we’re truly in this together.”
