Clark Public Utilities Powers up Performance Again

For the ninth consecutive year, J.D. Power recognized Clark Public Utilities for ranking highest in customer satisfaction among midsize electricity providers in the Western United States.

The J.D. Power study measures customer satisfaction with electric utilities by examining six key factors, which cover all areas of utility operations: power quality and reliability; price; billing and payment; corporate citizenship; communications and customer service. In all of these categories, customers gave Clark Public Utilities the highest score in the West midsize segment.

“J.D. Power is the most prestigious study when it comes to gauging customer satisfaction, partly because it isn’t a choice to participate,” said Nancy Barnes, president of Clark Public Utilities board of commissioners. “Since the utility first became eligible for J.D. Power nine years ago, customers have ranked Clark Public Utilities highest every year. We see it as a reflection of how we’ve always done things – putting customers first.”

J.D. Power designs and finances the study, a standardized measure of satisfaction available for the electric residential utility industry. More than 100,000 residential electric utility customers throughout the U.S. responded online to the study. Based on these responses, the study compared 137 electric utility brands, collectively serving over 97.7 million households.

“There are many benefits of public power, but having the freedom to focus on customer service, reliability and affordability is the key,” said Barnes. “That commitment is carried out by utility staff daily, and reflected in the consistently high levels of customer satisfaction we see in these survey results.”

The West region covers Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Midsize utilities in the report serve between 100,000 and 499,999 residential customers.

Clark Public Utilities is a customer-owned public utility that provides electric service to more than 193,000 customers throughout Clark County. The utility also provides water service to about 30,000 homes and businesses in the Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Lakeshore, Hockinson, Brush Prairie, La Center, Meadow Glade, Amboy and Yacolt areas.
