Electric vehicle drivers now have more options to park and power up with five new public chargers at Clark Public Utilities’ service centers.
“As more of our customers and employees drive electric vehicles, it makes sense to provide additional options for public charging,” said Wayne Nelson, CEO/general manager. “In 2011 we installed the first public charger in Clark County, a single Level 2 Blink charger at our downtown location, and it’s been in nearly constant use since.”
Conveniently adjacent to Interstate-5, the downtown service center at 1200 Fort Vancouver Way will now offer three public Level 2 Blink chargers and a new Level 3 rapid charger. The Orchards location will offer two public Level 2 Blink charging stations at 8600 NE 117th Ave.
“The Level 3 fast charger will be a great value to the community,” said Nelson. “With our location near the Interstate Bridge, drivers on longer trips can fully charge in 30 minutes at a safe, convenient location and be back on their way.”
All Level 2 chargers at Clark Public Utilities locations are owned and operated by Blink and the Level 3 fast charger is owned and operated by Clark Public Utilities. Blink members will be able to pay for charging through their Blink InCards and the Blink Mobile App for 39 cents a kWh. Drivers who are not Blink members can charge using a Blink guest code, accessed using any mobile device or the Blink Mobile App, at a rate of 49 cents per kWh.
Since 2011 when the first Nissan LEAF was added to its fleet, Clark Public Utilities has also expanded its commercial use of electric vehicles. The utility green fleet now includes more than 30 hybrid vehicles and two full electric cars. The utility operates separate chargers for fleet vehicles.
