With the cold, wet, Pacific Northwest Fall and Winter coming upon us, Share Vancouver is holding its Seats and Feets Drive collecting new underwear, socks, and diapers through the month of October.
Clean socks are a staple of health care. Rain-soaked feet, ill-fitting shoes, constant standing, and disease all take their toll on the feet of homeless people. One of the most basic ways to keep feet healthy is to keep them warm and dry – a sometimes daunting task if you spend your days outside.
“Our annual Seats & Feets drive is vital to bringing in thousands of pairs of underwear, socks, and diapers for our clients,” said Molly Evjen, director of volunteers and community resources. “We hope that community members will consider hosting a socially distant drive at their office, church, or in their neighborhood.”
Share is asking for new underwear (all sizes, for men, women, teens, and children), diapers (all sizes, including pull-ups), and athletic-style socks (all sizes, for men, women, teens, and children).
Donations can be brought to the Share Fromhold Service Center, 2306 NE Andresen Road, by appointment only. Contact Kelly Baumann at [email protected] to arrange for a drop-off time. Please also contact Baumann for details on hosting a collection drive.
Financial donations to support the drive can also be made on-line at sharevancouver.org.
