Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, so why not celebrate it this year in a classic style at the Kiggins Theater on March 17th!
This years event will combine the talents of the Fort Vancouver Pipe Band, performing various Scottish and Irish tunes, with the classic movie favorite, “The Quiet Man”.
Don’t think you can be late to the party on this one. The bagpipers and drummers will begin at 7:00 PM and perform for about a half-hour; the showing of “The Quiet Man” will start promptly afterward.
This classic is a romantic comedy drama that is far from quiet. Starring John Wayne, the movie features a famous fight scene that winds its way across a small village and countryside of Ireland. The film score behind that scene features a number of Irish tunes, including a lively one that the band will be playing, “The Rakes of Mallow.”
Set in 1920s Ireland, it includes stars Maureen O’Hara and Barry Fitzgerald. Some of its scenes show its age from being made in the 1950s, and yet it still retains its comic character that delights fans of the old classic. It was made in 1952 and won best director at the Academy Awards for John Ford that year.
Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased in advance at Kiggins Theater. Bring your Irish thirst and be sure to visit the concessions area with a variety of local wine and beer!
