Big Color, Big Art, and Big Fun Comes to Camas

hey! sharing is caring :)

Big color, big art, and big fun can be found in Downtown Camas during the annual Picnic in Color, a family-friendly, art-focused event slated for September 12th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You will find free arts and crafts for kids, art demos, food vendors for picnicking, and even special rubber ducks to decorate. Admission is free.

The event will take place on 4th Ave. from Cedar to Dallas and Cedar from 4th to 5th Aves. Start your creative adventure at the check-in booth on Cedar St. near the fountain.

Families are encouraged to come enjoy the Picnic in Color as there will be a plethora of fun activities, all revolving around art and community. Children will create small pieces of art, which will become a larger piece of collaborative art to be displayed at Lara Blair Photography Studio following Picnic in Color.

Youngsters will also be given the opportunity to create a piece of art they can take home. They will be painting works of art (which will be painted using a pizza box for an easel), crafting and molding with clay. Local artists, Anna Norris, Ted Norris, Tamara Sheline, and others will help the kids with their artful masterpieces. Joining the event this year will be caricature artist Peter O’Brien.

Also new this year is the partnership with the Camas Washougal Rotary Club, as their “Ducky Derby Kid Races” have been added to the lineup of activities. The club, with the help of fellow Rotarian engineers, have created a working flume that will carry the retired ducks from previous Ducky Derbies down the wooden flume in a race to the bottom.

Each child who attends will have the opportunity to decorate their duck prior to their adventure down the flume. The Rotarians will be on hand to sell last-minute raffle tickets for the 27th Annual Ducky Derby.

For this outdoor event, bring your picnic baskets or purchase food from Picnic in Color vendors and Downtown Camas restaurants, as tables will be available for enjoying delicious food together. Enjoy the picnic lunch right on the quaint, tree-lined streets of downtown. All are encouraged to wear bright colors, as the streets will be lined with colorful decorations adding to the vibrancy of this event. You could win raffle tickets for fun prize baskets for wearing bright colors, too!

“We are beyond excited for this wonderful opportunity to share in community and emphasize the importance of art in downtown with our neighbors, friends, and families and to promote the collaboration of art and commerce,” said Jan Carter, event coordinator for the Downtown Camas Association. “Come join in the creative fun and have a great time!”
