Aviation Explorers Post at Pearson Field Education Center

Do you want to learn to fly? Or interested in a career in aviation? The Pearson Field Education Center, in partnership with Cascadia Technical Academy and Aero Maintenance Flight Center, will host the first meeting of Aviation Explorers at the Pearson Field Education Center on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 11:00 am to noon.

Aviation Explorers is a hands-on program open to young men and women from 14 to 20 years old who have an interest in learning more about careers in aviation. Parents are also invited to attend and learn about the program. Pizza will be provided.

Monthly meetings will incorporate exciting activities and interactions with aviation professionals, exposing youth to potential careers in aviation. Aviation Explorers will experience firsthand what it’s like to be a pilot, aircraft mechanic, aerospace engineer, flight attendant or air traffic controller. They will visit airports, observe flight operations, and experience flying. Participants will learn about the educational requirements and receive tangible advice on steps to take now to prepare for a successful career in the field of aviation.

The Explorers program is also a leadership development forum, in which participating youth assume governance roles and determine the goals and direction of the group.

“I got started in aviation when I was a teenager through an Aviation Explorers Post,” said Theresa Nelson, Chief Instructor Pilot at Aero Maintenance. “We want to give young adults in the community the same opportunities to explore this exciting career field.”

There is no charge to attend the initial meeting. When a post is formally organized, the annual dues will be $24. Pearson Field Education Center is in a hangar on Pearson Field, at 201A East Reserve Street, Vancouver WA 98661.

The Pearson Field Education Center is a program of the Fort Vancouver National Trust. Pearson Field Education Center delivers experiential, aviation-based science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs for youth. It is open on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for youth and families to enjoy free activities, such as glider building, flight simulation, and other educational aviation fun.
