ALS Walk Marches Towards a Cure

hey! sharing is caring :)

Join the Oregon and SW Washington virtual Walk to Defeat ALS! On Saturday, May 15, 2021 we will Walk to Defeat ALS together.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.

ALS can strike anyone. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages only two to five years from the time of diagnosis. Presently there is no known cause of – or cure for – the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need.

Anyone and everyone can become part of the fight against ALS by joining a local Walk to Defeat ALS. All Walk routes are wheelchair accessible and Walk Day activities include something for all ages! There is no fee to participate in the Walk to Defeat ALS, but fundraising is encouraged. Funds raised contribute to local care service programs, global ALS research, and nationwide advocacy. Walk participants can raise anywhere from $100 to $100,000 dollars – the sky is the limit!

We know this event is meaningful to people with ALS, their family, friends, and all who support the fight against this disease. We look forward to celebrating ALS Awareness Month with you by walking to defeat ALS!

Walk Check-in: 11:00 AM – Ceremonies will be Live Streamed

You choose where you want to walk and how far you want to walk.

Your participation in the Walk to Defeat ALS has a direct impact on people living with ALS and their families at the local level. Through education, support groups, access to care, and advocacy, we are working to defeat ALS and provide hope to people living with ALS and their families.

Fundraising through the Walk drives bold and urgent innovation as we march together toward a treatment and ultimately a cure for ALS.

Locally, current fundraising sits at $56,428 raised, towards a goal of $65,000 (86.8% of goal). Can you help?
