The public is invited to join members of the Public Works’ Greenway Team and Urban Forestry at the Northeast 65th Avenue trailhead, just south of Southeast 18th Street, for this informative, approximately one-hour, leisurely walk on the paved trail along Burnt Bridge Creek.
Burnt Bridge Creek is an urban stream that flows through the heart of Vancouver, with an adjacent recreational path that runs for 8 miles.
But there is more to this creek than meets the eye. Portions of the creek and nearby natural areas are really managing the stormwater runoff that flows from streets, houses and yards. The carefully designed ‘gray’ infrastructure — pipes, catch basins and dry wells — and ‘green’ infrastructure — ponds, swales and plants – manage and improve stormwater, provide habitat and create a public-use area.
Along the walk, participants will learn about multi-use natural areas, sustainable trails, greenway restoration, progressive stormwater management systems and stewardship activities along Burnt Bridge Creek. Advance sign-ups are encouraged. For questions or to RSVP, email [email protected] or call (360) 487-8308. Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and for walking.
This walking workshop is part of TreeTalk, a series of free, all-about-trees, educational workshops, presented by Vancouver Urban Forestry and the Greenways Team, programs of the Department of Public Works.
