Volunteers Needed to Solve Battle Ground Schools Overcrowding

hey! sharing is caring :)

Over the past few years, Battle Ground schools have been working on solutions to solve the problem of overcrowding in its schools. Portable classrooms have been installed, they are no longer allowing boundary exceptions, they have made upgrades to the infrastructures, and have asked voters for funding for new schools (of which have failed).

With growth continuing, Battle Ground Public Schools are asking for volunteers to serve on a committee to address the districts overcrowding issues. The committee will be asked to bring specific recommendations on how to deal with overcrowding and continued growth.

The committee will have 25-30 individuals representing parents, staff, principals, and community members. If more people apply than there are positions for, parents, school staff, and community members will be selected by lottery. The committee will meet six times between September 18th and October 30th. Volunteers need to be committed to attending all the meetings. Meetings will be led by a contracted facilitator. Members will be asked to talk to the community and provide feedback at each meeting.

To apply, fill out the Overcrowding Committee Application online by August 21st.

The current status of Battle Ground Schools is as followed: Glenwood Heights was built for 484 students and currently has 807, Laurin was built for 600 and has 704, Pleasant Valley was built for 993 and has 1,121. Over the course of the next ten years, Glenwood is expected to grow by 380 to 445 students, while Laurin 336 to 440 students.

If you live in Battle Ground and are interested in addressing the school districts overcrowding issues, be sure to apply by August 21st to ensure your voice is heard.
