Aviation lovers and aspiring pilots of all ages are invited to Open Cockpit Day at Pearson Field on Saturday, May 27, 2017.
View historic planes up close, climb into the cockpit of vintage aircraft, and take a turn “flying” in the flight simulator lab at the Education Center. Additional activities include the popular vertical wind table, glider-building station, and other STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) activities. All activities are free.
Pearson Field pilots will roll out their airplanes and invite guests to sit in the cockpit to get a pilot’s-eye view of the controls.
Representatives from Aviation Explorer Post 1905 and the Civil Air Patrol will be on hand to talk to young people about becoming involved in youth aviation programs.
“This is a fun way for the community to support their local airport at Pearson Field,” said Garrett Schmidt, director of the Pearson Field Education Center. “Come spend the day meeting real pilots and experiencing their airplanes up close.”
Open Cockpit Day will take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Pearson Field Education Center, 201 E Reserve St, Vancouver, 98661
