Chili Cookoff and Firefighter Challenge.
The 4th annual Vancouver Fire Fighters Union’s fundraiser “Fire in the Park” Firefighter Challenge and Chili Cookoff will take place on Saturday, July 21, 2012 in Esther Short Park from noon to 9 pm. This is a FREE family fun event, open to everyone.
This year’s competition is gonna be smokin’ with entries from America’s First Choice, Brickhouse Bar & Grill, Columbia River Pickleball Club, Foody Blues BBQ, Goldie’s BBQ and Red Lion Hotel at the Quay, as well as Vancouver Fire Department Station 7 and Vancouver Fire Department Fire Training.
“Once again, we have some fantastic chefs competing in the Chili Cook-off,” said Diane McWithey, Executive Director of Share. “We encourage everyone who attends Fire in the Park to participate in the tasting – at just $1 per tasting cup, it’s a great way to support the community, plus taste some delicious chili.”
Taste some chili and you’ll be eligible to vote in several categories including the ‘People’s Choice’ award, as well as new categories this year: ‘Flashover Chili,’ ‘Most Unique Chili,’ ‘Best in Class,’ ‘Most Flavorful,’ ‘Most Popular Booth,’ ‘Best Chef Outfit’ and ‘Chili Spirit Award’; there will also be a ‘Judges’ Choice’ award.
In addition to the Chili Cook-off, event activities include: Firefighter’s Competition, Children’s Event Area, Fire Apparatus Display, Firefighter’s Pipe and Drum Bands playing throughout the day, plus featured bands throughout the day: 12:00-12:45: Pipe & Drum Band; 1:00-1:45: O.O.A.K. Drum Line; 2:00-3:15: High Point; 3:30-4:30: Island Breeze; 4:45-6:00: Flexor T; 6:15-7:00: Power Pep Band; and 7:15-8:30: Nu Wave Machine. For complete event details, visit fireinthepark.com.
