Firefighter Challenge Benefits Share Vancouver.
This is a charity FUN-draising (emphasis on fun) event to benefit Share Vancouver put on by Vancouver Firefighters Local Union 452, but many firefighters from different fire districts in the area participate to make this a successful, fun event for our community.
The Chili Cook-off is already heating up with current contestants for 2011: Chef Hector Hinojosa of Foody Blues BBQ, Chef David Mork of LaPellah, Chef Denny Shanahan of O’Shansky’s, Chef Craig Alexander of Red Lion Inn Vancouver at the Quay, as well as Chef Mike Bitter of Philly Bilmos, whose chili at the 2010 event was voted Peoples Choice Best Restaurant Chili.
“There are some fantastic chefs from local restaurants competing in this year’s Chili Cook-off,” said Diane McWithey, Executive Director of Share. “We encourage everyone who attends Fire in the Park to participate in the tasting – at just $1 per tasting cup, it’s a great way to support the community, plus taste some delicious chili.”
There is also the Firefighter Competition, Kids Zone, Fire Truck Display, and even a Beer & Wine Garden. The Firefighter’s Pipe and Drum Bands from all over the Northwest will be playing (be sure to ask them about the tartans they wear:)), and then a smoking concert from 6-9 pm featuring Patrick Lamb.
Admission is free and everyone is invited to come; donations will be accepted and much appreciated.
