Clark County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit Awards Scholarship to Deserving Cadet

hey! sharing is caring :)

The Clark County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit is made up of fully commissioned law enforcement officers who volunteer their time in support of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The Unit has established an annual scholarship fund to benefit the Clark County Sheriff’s Cadet Program.

The Cadet program is dedicated to providing a rewarding work and educational experience for individuals wishing to pursue a career in law enforcement. The program allows college students the opportunity to receive paid on-the-job training in non-law enforcement activities. Cadets must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and declare and maintain a major in a criminal justice or related field. They must maintain a minimum of 9 credit hours and a minimum GPA of 2.5.

The scholarship was titled the Bob Winsor Annual Scholarship in honor of the Clark County Reserve Unit Commander Bob Winsor. Commander Winsor has been a Reserve Deputy and dedicated volunteer serving the Clark County community for over 42 years.

Scholarship candidates had to submit a letter of interest, resume and letters of recommendation from their immediate supervisor and the Cadet Unit Supervisor. Along with being in good standing with all Cadet Program rules and off probation.

The scholarship award for 2014 was set by the Reserve Unit E-Board at $500.

The recipient selected to receive the Bob Winsor Annual Scholarship of $500 was Cadet Craig R. Murray. Cadet Murray was selected as the recipient for numerous reasons including:

* Clark County Cadet since 2013. In good standing with all program rules and regulations, and a commitment to pursue a career in law enforcement.
* Met all of the scholarship requirements established by the Reserve Unit.
* While working as a Cadet maintains a full course load at Clark College with the goal to transfer to WSU Vancouver in 2015 to complete a Bachelor’s Degree.
* Attained recognition as an Honor Roll student at Clark College.
* The Cadet Unit Supervisor and Coordinator Mary Malicki also submitted a letter of reference which recognizing Cadet Murray for “solid work ethic” and “outstanding work performance.”

It is for all of these reasons that Cadet Craig R. Murray was awarded the annual Bob Winsor Annual Scholarship of $500. The check and certificate were presented to him by Reserve Unit E-board President Bob Christian on December 8, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Clark County Sheriff’s West Precinct.
