Why Free Leftovers Offer Meals, Homes and Hope

hey! sharing is caring :)

Who doesn’t love Thanksgiving Leftovers?! To go with the Thanksgiving theme, Why Racing Events is hosting a FREE LEFTOVERS 5K Run/Walk.

This will be a no-frills, virtual event taking place November 21-29, 2020 to benefit Share. There is no registration fee; instead, a minimum $10 donation to Share is requested. Register online at WHYracingevents.com or leftovers5k.raceroster.com.

But, even with a virtual race, SWAG is just part of the fun. In keeping with the Thanksgiving theme, the Leftover Race swag will be just that… You will be surprised to find out whether you will be awarded the finisher of a marathon, a triathlon, or an ultra-trail run!

“The event is designed to inspire self-care and help Share’s vital programs at the same time,” said Sherri McMillian, owner of Why Racing Events and Northwest Personal Training. “Each registrant will receive high-quality leftover SWAG from various events over the year, which is how the name was created. So you might get a technical short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirt from one race and a medal from another. Participants will also get a bag full of goodies from local businesses.”

“We are grateful to Why Racing Events for hosting this virtual event on Share’s behalf. The population we serve is a vulnerable one and this crisis has only made their daily lives much more difficult—accessing meal and food programs, securing employment or housing, paying monthly bills, and caring for themselves and their family,” said Diane McWithey, executive direct of Share. “This event is a perfect way for people to step up their exercise regime in preparation for the big meals and special treats that come with the holidays. And they’ll be supporting those most in need at the same time.”

Why Racing has set a goal to make this the biggest run/walk event the community has ever experienced and a wildly successful fundraiser for Share.

The run/walk is a 5K event that can be completed anytime between November 21 to 29 and anywhere, such as a participant’s neighborhood, along a local path, even a treadmill.

Overall and age group awards will be provided to top finishers and all runners/walkers will receive a finishers’ certificate. An official photo album and video will be created and Why Racing Events will host a virtual awards ceremony.
