Wedding Affair to Remember

Wedding bells will be ringing in Downtown Camas – and we’re all invited! The Downtown Camas Association recently announced that for the First Friday in February, 2018, they will be hosting a wedding in Downtown Camas as part of the February First Friday festivities.

Dubbed a “Wedding Affair to Remember” it will feature Nick Calais and Tami Weidert as they say “I do” in front of friends and family and the community. The First Friday activities will all be wedding themed and will even include a Wedding Show with local wedding vendors from 5-8pm.

The ceremony will be held at the Liberty Theatre at 2:00 pm and Camas Mayor Scott Higgins will marry them. Tami will carry a paper bouquet made by her family in honor of our town’s heritage. Cake Happy will provide the wedding cake and light appetizers from most of the downtown restaurants will be served compliments of the bride and groom at an outside celebration from 5-8pm with lighted tents, music, dancing and wedding activities. Your Party & Event Center is sponsoring the event. Food from Mesa, Feast 316, Natalia’s Cafe, Kop Chai, Mill City Brew Werks, and Navidi’s Olive Oils will be featured as well as a treat bar by Truly Scrumptious Bakery.

The couple will also be providing special prize drawings for multiple downtown gift cards to thank and support all the shops and restaurants that have worked with them. There will be wedding themed specials in downtown restaurants as well including:

Salud Wine Bar: Pink wedding Mimosa Special, Cork toss game, Wine pong with tickets given to those who win to enter for raffle prize. Live music from 7-10pm. Mill City Brew Werks: Special Wedding Moscow Mules, Flavored Beer and appetizers.

The Wedding Show with local vendors will be set up in Journey Church, 304 NE 4th, from 5-8pm as part of the theme including Your Big Day (wedding dresses, tuxedos, honeymoon travel planning), truly scrumptious (wedding cakes and treats), blu box art (photography), Whispering Waters Farm (wedding event venue), Chickabloom Floral Studio (wedding bouquets and flowers), Whimsy Chocolates, Mandi MOON artistry (certified makeup artist), Your Party & Event Center (wedding rentals), and more.

The theme each February First Friday for the last 12 years has been “A Chocolate Affair to Remember” and to stay with tradition, each merchant will have a chocolate treat to share. For the passport activity throughout town from 5-8pm, merchants will have their wedding pictures in their shops and you guess the date of the wedding for chances to win. The Liberty Theatre will play the classic film ‘An Affair to Remember’ with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr that Friday and Saturday as part of the theme.

“It is because of Nick and Tami’s heart and downtown engagement that we decided to do this for a First Friday event,” said Carrie Schulstad, director of the DCA. “An amazing way to celebrate two of our favorite downtown visitors and include the community in a big way! It’s going to be a First Friday to top all First Fridays and all are invited. The wedding show will be a nice addition and will provide a perfect way to connect with quality local wedding vendors if you are planning a wedding. Mark your calendars for 2-2-18! It will be a wonderful night celebrating love and community.”

“We welcome everyone in the community to join the fun!” says Tami Weidert, the bride-to-be. “Family, friends, and new friends to be! We hope everyone comes out for our wedding and celebrates with us!! It’s going to a night to remember for all of us!”

First Fridays are Art, Activities, Dining, and After Hours Shopping themed family-friendly events coordinated by the DCA each month of the year to support downtown and bring the community together. For all the information and updates, visit the DCA website or the event Facebook page.
