Washougal Celebrates Youth Arts Month

hey! sharing is caring :)

Washougal School District and Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance have teamed up to shine a spotlight on student art throughout March, which is recognized nationally as Youth Arts Month.

Washougal youth will have opportunities to create, experience and display art throughout the events and activities planned all month long.

“The arts are an important element of our students’ education in Washougal,” said Mary Templeton, WSD Superintendent. “Student exposure and participation in both fine arts and performance arts are essential to educating the whole child.” Research indicates that high-quality art educational opportunities can improve critical-thinking skills and even help to foster important values such as empathy and tolerance.

Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance is inviting all Washougal students to take part in the Discover Washougal Art Student Photo Challenge. Students can use their smartphone or digital camera to photograph the beautiful public art throughout Washougal. You can enter up to three images; selected photos will be posted on the WACA website and Facebook.

The culminating event will be the Washougal Youth Arts Month Gallery, which will showcase student works created in art classes while you enjoy delicious and creative treats prepared by WHS Culinary Arts students. Check it out for free at Washougal Town Square, March 27-29 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and March 30 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
