Artists and art lovers from around the region will attend the Washougal Art Festival, Saturday August 13, 2016, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in downtown Washougal’s Refection Plaza.

Presented by the Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance (WACA), the event boasts more than 20 professional artists. “We are so pleased with the high caliber of art that will be on display and for sale at our event,” said Janice Ferguson, WACA Festival Committee Chair and Clark County Art Commissioner. All participants were juried in to the event, meaning their work was judged to ensure it meets Festival standards. For a preview of artists, visit Washougal Art Festival online.

“The Festival’s focus is on showcasing professional artists from the region who are actively producing and exhibiting their work to sell,” explained Ferguson. “We have a wonderful variety of artist styles and unique visions to show. Each artist clearly possesses a mastery over their medium.”

Some of the different art featured will include jewelry, water color, photography, mixed media, recycled steel, fused glass, paper weaving and line drawings, cement /concrete leaf castings, mosaic glass, terrariums, and wood. There will also be an “Art Rocks” area where young artists will have the opportunity to decorate their own river rock to take home as well as provide a template for coloring.

Adding to the fun of the day, performing arts will take place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. “It is exciting to provide this stage for some very talented local individuals and groups,” said Heena, WACA committee member and entertainment coordinator. Performers include musicians Anthony Utehs, guitarist and Tatiana Kolchanova, cellist; opera and jazz singer Nick Stevens and dance performances by Portland Rhythm Dancers and Washougal’s own Daley Dance Academy.

Local artist Liz Pike painted the poster art of Dougan Falls used in the Washougal Art Festival promotions. “It is simply beautiful and has been a great Washougal image to advertise our event,” said WACA committee member Joyce Lindsay. The original oil painting has been on display in locations throughout Washougal and Camas and will be sold through silent auction at the Festival. Participating artists have also donated pieces of their art to be raffled during the Festival. Proceeds will help WACA bring more public art to Washougal.

While in downtown, visitors are encouraged to stop in and enjoy a meal in one of Washougal’s great restaurants and shop in downtown stores. Then head over to the beautiful Marina Park for a free outdoor concert, sponsored by The Port of Camas-Washougal, featuring Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts.
