A Totem Pole’s Journey

hey! sharing is caring :)

Members of the Lummi Nation are bringing their Totem Pole to Vancouver for a blessing and a ceremony as part of a national tour.

Come out and take part in this unique event on October 16th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Community Room at the Vancouver Library.

The six-city journey will begin in Vancouver, WA and end in Philadelphia at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History where it will be on exhibit for five months.

The purpose is wrapped into the theme of this year’s ceremony, “Kwel’Hoy, We Draw the Line“.

This is a celebration of the progress made in stopping coal and oil terminals being developed on tribal lands and for the work that is still to be done.

The totem pole was created by Master Carve Jewell James of the Lummi Nation House of Tears carvers, who will be joining the journey.

This event is free and all are encouraged to attend, but an RSVP is appreciated.

Presenters and performers will thread together the message and heart of the Lummi Nation.

Here is the 2017 Journey Route:

10/14, University Congregational UCC, Seattle WA
10 /15, Foss Waterway Seaport, Tacoma WA
