- August 10
Washougal’s Reflection Plaza will once again be transformed into a gallery of art for the 2019 Washougal Art Festival presented by the Washougal Arts and Cultural Alliance (WACA). Be sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, August 10th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Reflection Plaza 1703 Main Street. The event is free and fun for the whole family.
This year 29 artists were picked to display their one of a kind masterpieces. According to Janice Ferguson, WACA Board Member, “More than 50 artists applied to be part of the festival this year. A jury of local art professionals selected the individuals who were invited to participate.” To check out the artists and their artwork in advance, visit WACA online. Guests will also be entertained by musical and performance groups throughout the day.
This years event flyer image was created by local muralist, Travis London. The watercolor image captures the true beauty of downtown Washougal. London has also done other local murals such as the “Historical Lager” on the side of Big Foot Inn, funded by WACA. There will be a limited number of event posters available for London to autograph for a $20 donation to the festival at his booth.
Returning this year as a festival favorite is The Paint Roller Mobile Paint Party providing free, fun, artistic projects for kids. New this year will be a silent auction with works of art donated by the participating artists. According to Chuck Carpenter, WACA board member, “A goal of the festival is to raise funds to bring more public art to our city.” The proceeds from this year’s festival will go towards funding “Dreaming”, a Heather Soderberg casting, to add to the public art of Washougal. “This life-sized bear is amazing in its character and detail and is certain to become a community and visitor favorite for taking pictures with,” said Carpenter.
Alex Smokehouse will once again be the main food vendor for the event. Root beer floats will also be on tap courtesy of the Washougal Lions with proceeds benefiting their community work.
