The 2nd annual AppleTree Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K on September 14-15, 2019, will take runners through unique historic sites including Fort Vancouver, Officer’s Row, the Army Barracks, Pearson Field Airport, the Grant House, and the Old Apple Tree (the oldest in the western USA, planted in 1826).
The AppleTree Marathon is a Boston Qualifier and will be an excellent challenge for elite runners as well as first-timers. The half-marathon will provide a popular option for runners who want to enjoy a great race on a great course. The Sunset 5k offers the perfect distance race for anyone who wants to share the racing experience and gives an opportunity for Marathon and Half Marathon runner to earn the coveted BEAST medal for an athlete who races both Saturday and Sunday. The festival even offers Kids 17 and under the opportunity to race the 5K for free, encouraging kids to get off their electronic devices and learn that being healthy and active is fun.
Sherri McMillan, race director for the PeaceHeath AppleTree Marathon festival, notes “This festival brings us back to the roots of running with a wholesome, community-minded event. Which other marathons can boast that their Mayor is baking apple pies for the Overall Champions?!” McMillan continues “We have police officers running in full uniform to raise funds for the Police Activites League, an organization that develops positive relationships with youth and police in our community. Also, $1 from each registration will be donated to our beautiful and historic Fort Vancouver National Park.”
The AppleTree Marathon Festival will include a Health and Fitness Expo, Post-race party, live concert, awards and more.
