Have you visited the heritage garden at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site? If not, the Garden Anniversary Party on August 24, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM is the perfect opportunity.
This year is the 103rd birthday of the National Park Service and what better way to celebrate than to showcase the heritage garden. Celebrate with music, garden tours, and community togetherness for the low low price of FREE.
Fortside Brewing will be hosting a beer garden with beer and wine available for purchase (21 and older) and Corwin Beverage Co. will be providing birthday cake and non-alcoholic beverages. There will be exciting surprises throughout the evening to recognize our National Parks.
Mary Rose, Executive Director of the Friends of Fort Vancouver said, “We are delighted that the volunteer gardeners will take center stage as they explain the vegetables, plants, and crops that once again flourish here. Plants chosen for the garden are well researched. Each variety of cotton, tomatoes or roses is carefully scrutinized for its authenticity to the historic period.”
Take home a piece of the garden with heirloom seeds that have been harvested from the garden available for purchase from the Friends of Fort Vancouver. The Friends’ Bookstore will also have a small selection of relevant items and keepsakes made by the Fort Trades Guild volunteers available.
If you enjoy a good mystery, writer Christine Carbo will be on hand for autographs. She will be giving a presentation on her national park themed mystery novels at the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center earlier in the day at 1:00 PM as well.
