Magenta Theater is bringing one of Shakespeare’s best comedies to the stage, Much Ado About Nothing.

From the director who brought you Steampunk Romeo & Juliet in 2014, David Roberts has adapted this wonderful tale to 1940’s war-torn England. This adaption takes the characters and moments everyone enjoys and transports audiences to a different period in time. A trio of singers bring harmonious hits from the era via lively musical interludes.

“Ado” is a great introduction for those who are timid about the Bard (Shakespeare). So, what is Ado About? Beatrice and Benedick are adamant in their mutual dislike, while Claudio and Hero are deeply in love. The two stories take an unexpected course when their world is shattered by a scheming malcontent who makes a shocking accusation. With “helpful” friends and relatives mixed into the story against the backdrop of WWII Europe, comedic romps, and hints of romance and betrayal, the play is sure to entertain.

Dave Roberts says, “The script is carefully adapted for its concise understandability with all the humor and beautiful nuances intact. Whether it’s an audience member’s first or 100th time, they will enjoy the sights and sounds of this wonderful classic tale.”

There are ten performances scheduled for April 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, at 7:30 PM, and April 18 and 25 at 2:00 PM. A tentative performance is scheduled for 2:00 PM on April 11th if ticket sales warrant.

Tickets are $22 in advance, and $24 at the door (as available).

Audiences should be aware that there are some scenes containing passionate kissing, along with ribald Shakespearean terminology.
