Fort Vancouver National Historic Site’s popular Kids Dig! program invites youth aged 8 to 12 to unearth the hidden world of archaeology! As the Pacific Northwest’s premier historical archaeological site, Fort Vancouver offers the ideal setting to rediscover the past buried below our feet.

In this hands-on activity, participants excavate a mock archaeological site using real tools and techniques to find, map, and analyze artifacts. The program encourages creative problem-solving skills while also imparting the importance of history and heritage.

“This program is great for kids interested in both science and history,” said Doug Wilson, National Park Service Archaeologist, “They will experience how archaeologists use science to learn new things about Fort Vancouver and why we should care about and protect archaeological sites.”

Space in each session is limited to 20 children. Reservations may be made at the reconstructed stockade on the day of the program, or in advance by calling (360) 816-6250. Advance reservations are recommended. The Kids Dig! program is free with admission.
