While everyone knows that we should protect ourselves from cyber identity theft it’s easy to forget that the threat of “paper” identity theft is still very real. Keep your identity safe by shredding your confidential papers!
Free up valuable space in your home, business, or storage spaces and protect yourself or your business by safely shredding important documents. Thomas Jefferson Middle School PTSA is hosting a free shred day event on Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The school is located at 3000 NW 119th Street, Vancouver. Donations are encouraged to support the PTSA sponsored 8th Grade Year-End Party, Class T-shirts, and Class Gift. Thomas Jefferson Middle School 8th grade Class Gift.
Shredding those documents isn’t only good for your safety, it’s good for the environment.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), each recycled ton of paper fiber saves:
17 trees
3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
360 gallons of water
100 gallons of gasoline
60 pounds of pollutants
10,400 kilowatts of electricity
What can you shred? Bank/financial statements, invoices, pay stubs, tax records, employment records, medical records, leases, contracts, letters, and documents containing passwords, PINs, or SSNs. No junk mail, magazines, catalogs, office paper, flyers, brochures, coupons, or receipts.
Remember, if the document does not have any personal or secure information, you can recycle it in your curbside mixed recycling without shredding.
So save your identity and the environment at the same time!
