Sweetheart Hangar Dance

The 2017 Sweetheart Hangar Dance will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Pearson Air Museum. The dance, in the style of World War II era USO dances, is an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

Celebrating 100 Years of our National Park Service

The 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Park Service will be celebrated at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site (NHS) on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Activities will take place at each of the four sites that make up this national park: the reconstructed Fort Vancouver, Vancouver Barracks, Pearson Air Museum, and the McLoughlin House in Oregon City, Oregon. Additionally, in honor of the centennial, all national parks nationwide, including Fort Vancouver NHS, will waive their entrance fees from August 25-27, 2016.

Aviation Summer Camps Return to Pearson Field

Building and flying a remote control plane, visiting the PDX control tower, and piloting a real aircraft over Vancouver are among the fun and educational opportunities for youth at the five week-long aviation summer camps offered at the Pearson Field Education Center.

BioBlitz at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site

Are you ready to unleash your inner geek and become a citizen scientist for a day? Fort Vancouver National Historic Site (NHS) will be hosting a Centennial BioBlitz – a treasure hunt to discover living organisms – May 20 and 21, 2016. National park rangers, accompanied by local scientists, will lead volunteers of all ages and backgrounds as citizen scientists for a day. Teams will develop a “snapshot” of biological information in the park by counting and identifying plant and animal species using the iNaturalist app, cameras, and field guides.

Sweetheart Dance Benefits Fort Vancouver

The 2016 Sweetheart Dance, sponsored by the Friends of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 7 pm to 10 pm at Pearson Air Museum, located at 1115 E. Fifth Street, Vancouver.

The Sweetheart Dance is reminiscent of the USO dances of the 1940s. Participants are encouraged (though not required) to wear period costumes and Class “A” uniforms, to take a step back in time and enjoy the evening. Beacock’s Swing Band, founded over a decade ago by Vancouver musician Dale Beacock and conducted by Cary Pederson, will perform dance music from the 1920s through the 1950s.

Aviation Harvest Festival

Second Annual Event at Pearson Air Museum.

Fall is in the air…time to celebrate at the Second Annual Aviation Harvest Festival at Pearson Air Museum on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 5 pm to 10 pm (Museum open from noon to 10 pm).

“Get your favorite costume on and get ready for some spooky fun! Candy stations located around our historic airplanes, glider construction & through the hoops challenge, Noisy Rocket balloons, “Fishing for Prizes”, and a costume parade with awards given for best overall costumes will be some of the fun at hand for our 2nd annual event. Our Flight Simulator Lab will be powered up and ready to go, and a special Pumpkin Patch photo-op (be sure to bring your camera and fresh batteries) will be waiting for your visit. Fort Vancouver Campfires and Candlelight

A Trip Back in Time.

Enjoy living history at the annual Fort Vancouver Campfire and Candlelight event on September 8, 2012 from 4 pm to 10 pm. A full schedule of events are planned, with free admission to both Pearson Air Museum and Fort Vancouver.

“Campfires and Candlelight is Fort Vancouver’s largest costumed re-enactment, only possible with the help of more than 150 costumed interpreters from the park’s volunteer team, the park’s youth volunteer team, and multiple community partners. This year, the event includes signature components like cannon firings, Oregon Trail families, and blacksmiths, bakers, and carpenters hard at work, in addition to an extensive Timeline of History to showcase military history at Vancouver Barracks over time.

Campfires and Candlelight begins at Pearson Air Museum, which focuses on pre-World War II aircraft and features a dramatic lighting scheme to complement the candlelight ambience at the fort.

Pearson Air Museum Open Cockpit Day

Kids Take Flight in Vancouver.

The annual Open Cockpit Day at the Pearson Air Museum (1115 East 5th Street, Vancouver) will be Saturday, August 25, 2012 between 9 am and 5 pm.

This is the one day a year when the “DO NOT CLIMB” and “DO NOT TOUCH” signs are removed, and visitors will have the opportunity to climb into the cockpits of several historic aircraft and see the controls from the pilot’s perspective. Check out the new Flight Simulator Lab and try your hand at landing a plane on Pearson Field!
