Come out on September 27th (things kick off at 7:00 am) and 28th to enjoy some Flyball fun and cheer on the Stumptown Racers at the Clark County Events Center in Ridgefield, WA.
What is Flyball you ask?
It is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball. Flyball uses teams of four dogs, as a relay. Flyball is not an easy sport to learn and takes effort and determination to training. It could be anywhere from 6 weeks to over a year to get a dog fully trained to play flyball. There are two governing organizations through which tournaments are held in Canada and The United States, NAFA and U-FLI. The event on the 27th and 28th is the annual NAFA sanctioned tournament.
Who can play?
Most any dog can be trained, but to really enjoy the process of becoming a flyball dog they should have the following qualities:
- Have a strong recall (memory)
- Has a strong ball drive (want to chase and get that ball)
- Is friendly to other dogs and humans
