Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam is hosting its annual Earth Day Celebration Saturday, April 22, 2017, in partnership with Clark County. The 18th Annual Earth Day Fest will be held at Salmon Creek Regional Park with activities for the whole family.
“This event has become a tradition for families to celebrate our natural environment, and this year the Fest is actually on Earth Day,” said Ashley King, StreamTeam coordinator for Clark Public Utilities.
The family-friendly event, open to the public, will include a free family Earth Day Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with fun and educational activities for all-ages. There will be prizes, a Birds of Prey show by the Audubon Society, live reptile demonstrations, OMSI science festival activities and an interactive juggling act. Kids are also welcome to take part in a nature walk where wild salmon will be released into Salmon Creek.
In addition to the Fest, hundreds of volunteers will pitch in from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to plant native trees. Volunteers must register in advance to participate in the planting and space is limited – all training and supplies will be provided. Lunch will be free to four-hour volunteers, and the first 100 Earth Day Fest attendees will receive lunch for free, or an insulated grocery bag. Lunch will also be available for purchase at the Fest.
“The tree planting has continued to gain in popularity and volunteers who want to get their hands dirty will need to sign up early to participate in the planting activity,” said King. “Families are also welcome to just come enjoy the free activities and entertainment at the Earth Day Fest – there’s a lot to see and do, rain or shine!”

StreamTeam is a volunteer-driven program of Clark Public Utilities comprised of more than 1,000 team members who donate more than 3,500 hours of their time each year to save salmon. StreamTeam members come from a myriad of backgrounds including utility employees, Stream Stewards, scout groups, college students, youth groups and active retirees.
