Stewardship Saturday to Support Columbia Springs

hey! sharing is caring :)

It is great to live in the great NW, we are surrounded by a wide variety of outdoor options to get out and explore. However in order to stay open to the public, these areas need some community support.

The Columbia Springs is one of these areas.  It was created in 1997 through the partnership of Clark Public Utilities, Evergreen School District, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, City of Vancouver, Clark County, and Clark College, and in 2001 obtained it’s non-profit designation. Since its conception this area has provided over 100,000 kids and adults with the opportunity to get outdoors and to learn more about the natural world through field studies, workshops, service learning projects, summer day camps, community events and more. There mission is to provide our community a unique setting where educational experiences foster a greater awareness of the natural world, inspiring stewardship.

To help keep this area great for everyone Columbia Springs has created Stewardship Saturday, a family-friendly event, as a great opportunity for community members and families to participate in restoration activities and improvement projects. This area boasts 100-acres of natural areas and the historic Vancouver Trout Hatchery. Projects may include gardening, painting, cleaning, and more. The day ends with a fun activity.

Stewardship Saturdays in 2014 are offered June 28th, September 13th, and November 15th from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. For additional questions about volunteering with Columbia Springs, please call (360) 882-0936 ext. 230 or email [email protected]. Columbia Springs is located at 12208 SE Evergreen Hwy, Vancouver, WA 98683

For this event snacks, tools, and gloves will be provided and all are welcome, but it is asked that kids under 14 have parent or guardian supervision and teens under 16 have parent or guardian permission. So get out there and bring sturdy shoes, appropriate outdoor work clothing, a water bottle, and your enthusiasm for helping the community.
