Solar Eclipse Viewing Parties

hey! sharing is caring :)

Don’t be left in the dark! In case you haven’t heard, a total Solar Eclipse is taking place on Monday, August 21, 2017, right here in Clark County, WA! The Eclipse will start around 9:00 am,  be full at approximately 10:19 am and end around 11:40 am.

This will be the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in nearly 100 years. It will also be the first total eclipse exclusive to the U.S. since before the nation’s founding in 1776, hence the National Eclipse. The so-called Great American Total Solar Eclipse will darken skies all the way from Oregon to South Carolina, along a stretch of land about 70 miles wide. Here in Vancouver, the eclipse will view around 98% of total.

There are lots of options on how to enjoy this historic event. Sure, you can stay at home and watch, but there are also plenty of other choices, too.

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site: A community viewing of the Solar Eclipse kicks off a special week of free talks and tours! Check in will be in front of the Grant House, 1101 Officers Row, Vancouver, WA 98661. The event is from 8:00 am to noon.

Mill Creek Pub Eclipse Patio Party: They will have their patio set up with special themed food and drinks, free eclipse viewing glasses (for the first 50 guests), door prizes and t-shirts. A portion of the event sales will go towards Rock Solid Community Teen Center.

Camas Public Library: Crafts and fun activities for the kids. Hello Waffle Cart, 9 Bar Espresso and The Hungrys Bakery will be on hand for your dining enjoyment. Both 4th and Franklin will be blocked off for the event, please bring your own lawn chair. They will also be live streaming inside.

La Center Community Building: “Join us at the library to celebrate the celestial event of the century! Free eclipse glasses provided for the first 150 people.” Contact La Center Community Library 360-906-4760 for more information.

Vancouver Community Library: The library will be hosting several solar activities and a streaming of the total eclipse from NASA. Contact the Vancouver Community Library 360-906-5000 for more information.

WSU Vancouver: Enjoy coffee, music, and moonpies as this extraordinary celestial event turns day to night.

No matter where you decide to watch the eclipse, be sure to wear your protective eclipse glasses! Looking directly at the sun, even when it is partially covered by the moon, can cause serious eye damage or blindness.
