Now is the Time to Volunteer

hey! sharing is caring :)

Are you observant? Do you want to learn more about your local police department? Could you find four hours a month to help the community? If so, the Vancouver Police Department’s Neighbors On Watch (NOW) citizen patrol program may be a great fit for you. NOW is growing and additional volunteers are encouraged to join this wildly successful program. Applications for the next training academy will be accepted until July 21, 2016.

Citizens interested in training to help the police with crime prevention are welcome to apply for the NOW volunteer team. NOW is a high-visibility, non-confrontational, observe and report program. Trained volunteers patrol in pairs throughout the city of Vancouver, including neighborhoods, trails, parks, special events, and other areas that need attention. NOW volunteers work in partnership with Vancouver Police by being extra “eyes and ears” and reporting suspicious or criminal behavior.

Patrols are done on foot, bike and in vehicles. Applicants must be at least 21-years old, live in the city of Vancouver, pass a background investigation, and complete 40 hours of training before becoming part of the NOW citizen patrol team.

Training includes observation skills, radio communications, patrol procedures, rules of conduct, personal safety, incident reporting, CPR, First Aid and search techniques. For more information visit Neighbors on Watch Recruiting Additional Volunteers online or contact Volunteer Coordinator Kelly Cheney at 360-487-7467 or [email protected].
