More Students Welcomed Back to In-Person Learning

Evergreen Public Schools will begin to welcome more and more students back for in-person learning beginning January 19. The district announced it would be following Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s new guidelines announced in December, along with Clark County Public Health’s direction, allowing schools to offer more in-person learning as COVID transmission numbers flatten.

Evergreen has already offered in-person learning for small groups of Kindergartners, and students needing additional assistance, since last September. Beginning January 19, Kindergartners will return for more in-class time, and first graders will also begin in-person class twice a week. Then on January 25, second and third graders are scheduled to begin two day a week in-person learning, followed by fourth and fifth graders on February 1, if COVID transmission levels in Clark County are within guidelines. Students in need of additional learning supports in all grades will also continue to be identified to receive in-person assistance. For the days students are not scheduled for in-person learning, they will continue in remote learning. Families are also given the option to have their students remain in full time remote learning as well.

Superintendent Mike Merlino outlined if Clark County COVID numbers continue to decrease within the guidelines, middle and high school students could begin a return to in-person school during February and March. In addition, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) is scheduled to announce updated secondary sports and activity plans on January 4th.

“We have all the necessary safety protocols in place, and have been successfully using them in our schools since September for our small groups of in-person learners. We appreciate all the hard work our staff members have been doing and are excited to welcome more students back into our schools for in-person learning,” said Merlino.

Elementary families will receive specific information directly from their child’s school. General in-person learning information is available at www.evergreenps.org.
