Local Scout Puts Obstacles in His Path on Way to Eagle Scout Rank

hey! sharing is caring :)

Most people like to remove obstacles that are in their path on their way to reaching a goal. But, this young man chose to PUT obstacles in his path toward earning his Eagle Scout rank.

David McKellar’s Eagle Scout Project is to build a portable and easy-to-store obstacle course for the Clark County Sheriff’s K-9 group. He is currently asking for monetary donations to buy the supplies he needs to construct the obstacle/training course for the K-9 officers and their handlers.

McKellar, a Junior at Skyview High School, started in Cub Scouts when he was in first grade. He has been in scouting for 11 years, earned 21 merit badges, gone through leadership trainings, and has lead his own Troop.

“I am having a lot of fun working with the Sheriff’s office and getting to know the officers. Officer Seth Brannan has been my contact and he has been very helpful during this process,” said McKellar. “I decided to do this project because I was looking for something that would have a large effect on the community. One day my mom was looking at a news report that another scout had built a K-9 obstacle course and I loved the idea. I am excited to be working with the people who keep us safe on a daily basis. I appreciate all their hard work and dedication to making our city and county a safe place to live. I contacted the Clark County Sheriff’s K-9 department and they said that they had been wanting to have a course for their dogs to train them on and that they would more than welcome my help in getting one built for them. I was able to meet with all the officers and with their collaboration, we decided on what obstacles would best suit their training needs. I’m now receiving donations and beginning to build the training course.”

If you would be interested in helping David McKellar reach this milestone achievement, you can donate through PayPal, Venmo, or mail in a contribution. His mother, Dr. Lori McKellar of Natural Choice Chiropractic, has set up a Venmo account for this purpose (@Lori-McKellar) or PayPal ([email protected]). If you would like to make a donation by check, please make it out to Troop 479, and mail it to:

Pressure Treated Wood
White Paint
Chain Link Fence Gate

“Since 1912, the Eagle Scout rank has represented a milestone of accomplishment—perhaps without equal—that is recognized across the country and even the world. Those who have earned the Eagle Scout rank count it among their most treasured achievements. “Eagle Scout” is not just an award; it is a state of being. Those who earned it as youth continue to earn it every day as adults. That is why an Eagle Scout IS an Eagle Scout—not was.”

We wish David McKellar all the best on his way to earning this milestone.
