This year will mark the 7th annual National Get Outdoors Day (GO Day), where participants from federal agencies, community groups and nonprofit organizations team up to encourage healthy outdoor fun at sites across the nation. The main goal of this community celebration is to reach the underserved populations, first-time visitors to public lands, and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors. National parks across the states will host information centers where guests can experience such activities as fishing, geocaching, learning to pitch a tent and finding out about healthy and sustainability living. To encourage outdoor activity throughout the summer, participants will be invited to nearby follow-up activities called EchO events. Fort Vancouver GO Day
The official GO Day event in Clark County, WA is at Fort Vancouver. This year the day will blend three events into one great day: Get Outdoors Day, NW National Park Family Day, and the Fort Vancouver Brigade Encampment. This unique experience will include over 50 booths with hands-on recreation activities such as climbing, fishing, dutch oven cooking, camping, hiking, orienteering, Frisbee golf, and archery. Since Get Outdoors Day is a nationwide fee-free day, the Fort will be open and free to the public all day. Activities will begin at 10:00 am and run till 3:00 pm.
Bike Safety Fair
Bring the whole family (and your bikes) to the bike safety fair hosted by the Hough School. The fair includes free bike safety inspections, maintenance, bike safety instruction, and a helmet fitting. This community service is made possible with the help by volunteers from Bike Clark County, Bad Monkey, Vancouver Police Bicycle Patrol, Legacy Trauma Nurse, and NOW Bike Patrol. If you have an old unused bike hanging around your garage, you can bring it to the donation station. All bike donations will be refurbished and donated back into the community. This events begins at 10:00 am and runs to 1:00 pm.
Bark for Life
Bring your pooch down to Pacific Community Park for Bark for Life, a one mile noncompetitive dog walk that is raising funds for the American Cancer Society. If you are among the first 100 to register, your canine companion will get a bandana. Other activities include local vendor booths, canine contests, and demonstrations. The walk begins at 9:00 AM and costs $10.00 per dog for registration.
