Join the fun at the 26th annual Clark Public Utilities Home and Garden Idea Fair April 28, 29 and 30, 2017, at the Clark County Event Center. This local tradition is the perfect kick off to the home improvement season with a huge plant sale, free kids’ activities, and all the ideas and supplies you’ll need for your next home project – indoor or out!

The free show features hundreds of local home and garden businesses, a showcase of full-size landscape displays hosted by the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals, as well as guest presentations sponsored by the Building Industry Association and the Clark County Think! campaign. The plant sale, one of the biggest in the region, is coordinated by the Specialty Nursery Association of Clark County and brings together more than 50 vendors selling trees, shrubs, vegetable starts, native plants, flowers, succulents, yard art, fairy gardens and hanging baskets. The Salmon Creek Farmers market will also host a collection of local market vendors on the midway.

“This event started out 26 years ago as a few tables with information about energy efficiency and utility programs,” said Heather Allmain. “Today it’s a full-scale home and garden show with hundreds of exhibitors, free family activities, local community partners and one of the biggest plant sales in the area. It’s truly an annual tradition for tens of thousands of our customers.”

Exploring new construction or thinking about your dream home? New Tradition Homes is building its Innovation Home inside the Exhibition Hall, showcasing the latest technology for making your home beautiful, comfortable and energy efficient. Or for those thinking big about living small, tour a unique tiny house to see how a small, portable house can be big on comfort and energy-efficiency.

“In addition to hundreds of local businesses ready to talk through your project ideas, this year we have all kinds of fun, free activities for kids and families hosted by The Vancouver Clinic in the new KidZone,” said Allmain. “Also new this year is a generous guest survey prize of $5,000 toward a Stone NW landscaping project, provided by Columbia Credit Union. So make sure you tell us what you think for a chance to win!”

There is no cost for entry to the Clark Public Utilities Home & Garden Idea Fair but donations of non-perishable food items for local food banks or cash for Operation Warm Heart, a program providing home heating grants to families in financial crisis, are encouraged. Event Center parking is $6 per vehicle and the utility provides free shuttle bus service from the Fisher’s Landing and 99th Street transit stations. Visitors can also bring burned-out compact fluorescent light bulbs for safe recycling and receive two free LED bulbs in exchange.

Hours are Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information is available online at Clark Public Utilities Home and Garden Idea Fair.
